8th SEE Forum and Clean Energy and Technology Conference (CET) Malaysia

The 8th SEE Forum along with Clean Technology and Energy Conference during 27th – 29th June 2011, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, were successfully co-organized by SEE Forum, High Institution Center of Excellence (HiCOE)-Center of Research for Power Electronics, Drives, Automation and Control, University of Malaya, and Kyoto University Global COE Program on “Energy Science in the Age of Global Warming”.

The meeting was convened to further discuss research and education cooperation on new energy initiatives among Asian Countries and brought together over 70 participants from 12 countries who were committed to this objective. Emeritus Professor Susumu Yoshikawa of Kyoto University, Japan, and Professor Nasrudin Abd Rahim, University of Malaya, and Assoc. Prof.Sirintornthep Towprayoon, JGSEE, co-chaired the meeting.

The meeting focused on human capacity building and research collaboration among Asian countries toward a low carbon economy and a sustainable society. In the meeting, the current status of national SEE Forum activities in member countries were reported as country report (attached here). Issues relating to the Journal of Sustainable Energy and Environment (JSEE), and the SEE Forum young researchers network were discussed (attached here).

During Report & Discussion, in particular, overview report of Status of JST – JICA SATREPS (2010) – Review and Prospect in 2011, were reported by each P. I. respectively.
These bilateral collaborations include: Indonesia, India, Malaysia,Thailand, and Vietnam.

Human capacity building was further discussed in conjunction with recent UNESCO Project and New Energy Consortium for Sustainable Environment (NECSE). 7 Asian young researchers were specially awarded as Essey Competition of UNESCO-SEE Forum e-learning. For seeking a possible collaboration with JICA/AUN-SEED/Net program in the field of energy, their activities were also introduced and shared among participants.

At final stage, future plan of SEE Forum was also discussed, with reference to Global COE program as well as JSPS programs. Plans for 9th and 10th SEE Forum were also discussed.
